Amazon.com Review
If the Weather Channel or a local weather radio station isn't enough, it might be that the La Crosse WS-8025OAK Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station can take up the slack. Multiple meteorological readouts appear on an elegant oak-toned base station, mountable for walls or able to stand freely, with a built-in, fold-out stand. Sensors (up to three) transmit information from outdoor vantage points to the base station. Indoor and outdoor temperature (in degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius) and relative humidity are prominently displayed. Radio-controlled calendar and time readings are accurate to within a second per year. Time can be displayed in 12- or 24-hour modes.

The Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station has some special features, too. It gets its name from its ability to calculate rise and set times for the sun and moon based on an entered city name--there are 250 North American cities to choose from. (There's an indicator for 12 phases of the moon, too.) It can track barometric air pressure with a 30-hour history chart. The weather forecast function, estimated to be 75% accurate, is based on change in air pressure over time. Three icons--a sun, a sun with clouds, or two rain clouds--indicate imminent changes in the weather. There are two weather tendency arrows as well, indicating changes in air pressure. A temperature alarm can be set to alert for specific temperatures reached at the remote sensor location. And a storm warning feature uses drastic drops in air pressure to trigger an alarm.

The weather station comes with La Crosse transmitter TX4U. Weather station and transmitter each operate on two AA batteries. For options in wall mounting, two screws and screw anchors and a strong adhesive tape are included. The WS-8025OAK measures 10 by 7-1/2 by 3/4 inch. La Crosse provides a one-year limited warranty on its weather stations. Each weather station comes with a thoroughly detailed instruction booklet. --Garland Withers

4 out of 5 stars La Crosse WS-8025OAK Weather Station - Looks & Works Well   January 11, 2008

I purchased the La Crosse Technology WS-8025OAK Sun/Moon Wireless Weather Station for our master bedroom. The oak trim matches almost perfectly with the honey oak furniture and wood in our room. The overall looks of this weather station screams high-tech. I am a gadget freak so this really fits the bill perfectly.

Great looks aside, this weather station really provides a lot of useful information, and quite accurately may I add. The outdoor wireless sensor seems right on the money, providing believable temperature and humidity readings. The unit receives signals from the Atomic clock regularly and is always spot-on with the time. I only have a few small complaints with this excellent weather station. First, with so much information jammed onto the display, many of the important numbers can be fairly hard to read unless you are right up close to it. For instance, the indoor temperature and humidity should really be larger numbers so they can be seen from a greater distance. Secondly, the acrylic cover over the display tends to reflect light quite a bit, which also makes it hard to read when lights are on in the room. A backlight feature or a matte finish would certainly improve this issue. Lastly, the displayed barometric pressure seems to wander off base at times, compaired with what our local television station reports. Therefore the forecasted weather conditions displayed on this unit are sometimes way off the mark. It can be raining outside and yet the unit will show a sunshine symbol on the display. Then again, considering how often our local weather team misses the mark when forecasting the weather in Western Michigan, I guess you could say that the La Crosse WS-8025OAK fits right in around these parts. =o)

Overall my wife and I are extremely happy with our La Crosse weather station. It looks great, provides fairly accurate imformation (for the most part), and it seems to have a quality build that will surely last for many years to come. It's a fun and useful device that adds a look of class to our bedroom. I find it easy to recommend this model to anyone in the market. Cheers.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting but complicated   October 1, 2007
This is the second Weather Station we've bought from LaCrosse. When the two were side-by-side they were giving slightly different readings, which was peculiar. This model provides a wealth of information, but is complicated to set up ("push set 17 times...")and operate ("hold the button for 1 second"). The outdoor high and low temps are always visible, but you have to press a button to reveal the same for indoors, which is peculiar. There's a lack of symmetry in the controls. But our new one provides much more info than the first, which is now in our summer house.

4 out of 5 stars Insruction Manual not complete   May 13, 2007

Somewhat difficult to set up, but functionality is fine. Difficulty in turning off the alarms when not wanted. Would recommend a better instruction manual.

5 out of 5 stars Very nice unit   December 31, 2006

I put this on my Amazon Wish List and got it for christmas. It was easy to set up and does exactly what it is supposed to do w/no glitches or resets. weather in indiana can be pretty festive so I'm sure this unit will get a big workout. Only disappointment -- it takes five batteries which are not included; I didn't have that many so I had to wait (oh, bother) to go to the store to set it up. I would like one that measures wind velocity too, but I haven't found one that does that. All in all, a very helpful, easy to read and understand unit.

4 out of 5 stars A hit but not a homerun.   September 25, 2006

I recently purchased this model to replace a separate radio controlled atomic clock and wired In/Out thermometer.

The unit seems well made and the display is easy to read. Based upon my experience so far I would still buy one but the design/implementation could certainly be improved.

1 - The remote distance of 80' is line of sight under perfect conditions. The manual suggests to deduct 20-30 feet for an external wall. If there wasn't an external wall it wouldn't be outdoors now would it?

2 - The time of day is only updated once a day at/near midnight. My unit is off by 2 seconds by noon. Not a big deal but one would expect a bit more accuracy.

3 - The algorithyms for computing the sunrise/sunset and moonrise/moonset seem to be off a couple of minutes when compared to values from Intellicast, etc.

4 - The temperatures and humidities seem accurate compared to other measurements I have.

5 - Even though it has a 'rain cap' the external sensor must be out of direct rain fall such as under the eaves.

6 - The oak trim is just a vinyl decal on plastic. Nobody is going to confuse it will real wood.

However, in spite of my criticisms I think it is a good unit for approximate weather monitoring.
